Perfumer Emily L'Ami translates each element's textures and presence through a palette of natural materials — ingredients the body recognizes at a place deeper than thought, shaped into perfumes as complex and alive as life itself.
Emily and Fred L'Ami founded BODHA in 2014. Emily trained in mathematics and perfumery, though what she actually loves isn't perfume — it's raw materials: their complexity, weirdness, and imperfections. Fred, a designer, shapes everything you see and touch with the same sensory precision. Both originally from New Zealand, they created BODHA on the belief that scent's purpose isn't luxury or novelty — it's reconnecting you with yourself.

Process
We see each BODHA creation as a collaboration between scent & experience.
Emily takes an emotion-first approach to fragrance design, beginning with the feeling she wants to create, then drawing on her understanding of how ingredients activate both psychological & physiological pathways. Trained in aromatherapy and perfumery, she brings scientific knowledge to the art of fragrance creation, allowing her to craft precise formulations that create specific emotional effects.

Fred approaches design through intuition & intention, crafting the weight, curves, and materials you might not consciously notice but that deepen every encounter. From the touchstone shape of our perfume lids to the textures of our packaging, he creates tactile experiences that resonate beyond the visual.

The BODHA scent studio
Our studio sits in the hills of Pasadena — where every BODHA fragrance is developed, from ingredient sourcing to packaging design.
