What's your theme?

Every January, I have dinner with the same friends to share our theme for the year — not goals, more a feeling or intention for how we want to be.

My theme this year: nourish the practice.

I'd been noticing a deep desire to spend more time smelling. It might sound weird, but each perfume ingredient feels like a friend I want to hang out with. When I'm away from them too long, I miss them.

I'd also been keeping notes on artists like Anne Truitt — people who structure their lives to make space for their practice. So I tested my theory. I gave myself the entire holidays to just smell and see how it felt. I loved every moment.

What about you? What kept coming up last year? What did you save? What quotes stuck? Who did you admire and why?

Finding your theme might feel abstract at first, but when the year gets noisy, it becomes an anchor — maybe even a life raft.
