The Shape of Time

We launched version one of our Earth, Plants, and Air perfumes in 2019, version two in 2022, and soon we'll launch version three.

I know it seems weird. People ask me why I'd change something that's doing well rather than make something new. And I've wrestled with it myself. Why can't I just let them be?

Then last week I picked up The Shape of Time by art historian George Kubler, and he articulated the feeling I'd been circling. Everything humans make, he says, is a question we're trying to answer. Some questions resolve easily. The big, interesting ones stay open, and we keep making things in response.

That's exactly how I feel about these perfumes. They're living questions about elements that are alive and changing themselves. The past couple of summers in Costa Brava changed my answer to Earth. Having a garden changed my answer to Plants. Each version carries the shape of a certain time.

Ultimately, I think that's aliveness. Living the questions, in whatever form it takes for you.
