Creating Certainty

Sensory Living

Things feel so unstable and uncertain at the moment. I don't know about you, but in my world—from personal to local to global—the future feels murky, tender, and vulnerable. I find myself looking for small islands of certainty, things that I know will help me find a moment of refuge amid the chaos. I make a pot of hot buttered cardamom rice, re-listen to a favorite conversation in the bath (like this & this), and roll on some perfume while reading a nerdy perfume manual in bed.

These sensory rituals work because they provide an immediate pathway to my nervous system, gently interrupting anxiety loops, anchoring my body in a tangible experience, and giving me a nonverbal way to process some of the complexity and confusion I'm feeling.

What are your islands of certainty? Where do you find your center of gravity again?
