The Scent of Soul At Peace — ヒノキ

Yakuōji, 'the healing temple'
From Shinto temples to neighborhood bathhouses, sacred spaces in Japan are all scented with hinoki, known as the 'scent of soul at peace.' Hinoki, a beautiful cypress tree native to Japan, has been used for centuries for its fresh, dry wood notes & superb antibacterial properties.
On our last incense trip, we spent a week on Shikoku, an island ringed by 88 temples dating back over 800 years. This pic is from temple #23 Yakuōji, 'the healing temple,' where we soaked in the profoundly peaceful scent of its ancient hinoki structures.
