Scent Terroir

If you've heard of the concept of 'terroir' it's probably been in relation to wine, but terroir's also an important part of understanding scent.

Where an ingredient is grown, the make-up of the soil, elevation & moisture all impart characteristic scent notes. A great example is the beautiful smell of vetiver. Steam distilled from the roots of a tall grass, we source vetiver from Java, Haiti, Indonesia and India. While Haitian vetiver is slightly sweet & resinous, Sri Lankan vetiver is more woody & smokey.

Helping you experience these sensory fingerprints is all part of what we want to do with our first Bodha perfume so keep a look out for more info coming soon.
