Breadcrumbs from your Subconscious
Ever notice how recurring thoughts are breadcrumbs from your subconscious, hinting at future relevance? Here's what's been on my mind lately - how about you?
- the heartbeat of the earth
- self-soothing
- smoked fruits
- arranging things.
The heartbeat of the earth - Last week, I attended the opening of a collaborative exhibition between NASA scientists and artists. A piece that's stuck with me is a woman who implanted microchips in her shins, which vibrate in response to worldwide earthquakes. Once she overcame the initial weirdness, she said she grew fond of it and felt like she had two heartbeats, her own and the earth's.
Self-soothing - A friend and I keep chatting about how we self-soothe. A few years ago, I had to have a series of surgeries, and it made me hone in on the little things I could do to find some calm in the face of big fear. For me, it's a rock in my pocket, a favorite scent, and hand-on-heart breathing. What is it for you?
Smoked fruits - I've been making time for perfume play recently - going to scent exhibitions and workshops, dreaming up a scented meal, and fiddling with new ingredients. Something I keep thinking about is a smoked fruit note. Which fruit, which smoke, and for what, I don't know.
Arranging things - I found this book when we were in Spain. It's by the same author as the famous Wabi Sabi book and is, in his words, a 'conceptual tool' for how we see things. I've started noticing myself looking at objects in our house differently, and I like it.
Until next week
