The Journey
We all share a deep desire to experience a time in life dedicated to reflection and self discovery. A physical, spiritual or mental journey that helps us claim space, gain perspective & reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.
With that in mind here's three of our favorite stories of personal journey - one into the wilds of the Himalayan mountains, one through the forced loss of 'self' and another inward for a year of solitude. We hope you find something interesting, inspiring, even illuminating in their very different experiences.
- The Snow Leopard, Peter Matthiessen - Peter's journals from his 1973 hike to Crystal Mountain after the death of his wife is a beautiful observation of nature & time interjected with Buddhist philosophy.
- My Stroke of Insight, Dr Jill Bolte Taylor - The incredible story of a neuroanatomist who at 37 had a massive stroke wiping out the left hemisphere of her brain. With only the sensory, 'present moment' right hemisphere remaining she experienced a silent mind & deep connection to everything around her.
- Plant Dreaming Deep, May Sarton - her intensely personal account of transforming a dilapidated 18th century farmhouse into a home is full of the beauty of simply observing the changing seasons.
