Sustainable Optimism

‘Joy is not made to be a crumb.’ — Mary Oliver

How are you doing out there? I know we’re supposed to be feeling optimistic but most people I chat to have hit a kind of psychic wall - a mix of burn out & shared grief.

We all know being optimistic is a more enjoyable way to live but how do you create sustainable optimism, the kind that can keep you steady no matter what’s going on? Psychologists researching this have found optimism is like a muscle, it requires practice & it can be grown. Sustainable optimism begins by acknowledging things as they are, which means not getting caught up in hopes & expectations. Followed by focussing on gratitude for what is, no matter how small. With practice & patience we can all rise the tide of our optimism boats.

Wishing you optimism,
