A Kind of Magic

Smelling together is a kind of magic. There’s nothing I love more than seeing people’s eyes light up as a scent unlocks a forgotten memory or unexpected feeling.

The act of smelling is special because it pulls you into the present while simultaneously connecting you to your emotional core. It's both deeply personal and universal, which is why it's so fun to do it with others.

Our inaugural Scent Club last week was designed to share this feeling with more people. We explored five citrus ingredients blind—from Italian green mandarin to Vietnamese May Chang, a special Japanese yuzu, the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, and a key grapefruit note in modern perfume. Even though everyone had no prior scent experience, the impressions and stories people shared were so interesting and insightful—it was like getting to know someone in a new way.

A special thanks to our inaugural Scent Clubbers (and friends I tested this out on). If you'd like to join the next Scent Club, there are a few tickets left for 'Fresh/Green' on June 13th at 3 pm PST. And keep an eye out for an in-person Scent Club at a favorite retreat coming soon.

Best scented wishes,
Emily
