Citrus Love

I've never met a citrus I don't like, from the pithy bitterness of a grapefruit rind to the orange blossomy magic of petitgrain. Citruses speak to something bright and sparkly in us all. They're intrinsically uplifting and great at combating fatigue and reducing nervous tension.

I use some form of citrus in all our perfumes. Sometimes, I want them to stand out; other times, they're there to support and lift other ingredients up.

Here's the what, how & why of a few favorite citrus notes in our Vibration Perfumes.

Yuzu Rind found in AirDistilled from the rinds of native Japanese citrus, it has a unique, bright green scent that's instantly refreshing. Our Japanese producer collects Yuzu peels leftover from juicing, extracts the essential oil, and then dehydrates the spent peels which get used as a natural antioxidant for Japanese cows!

Petitgrain sur fleurs found in Plants - Only a few distillers make this rare version of petitgrain essential oil. Distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree combined with some orange blossoms (hence the sur fleurs), it has a beautiful fresh green floral note that's a little rounder & softer than regular petitgrain.

Pink Grapefruit Rind found in Earth - Hidden in the opening of Earth is the evanescent bitterness of pink grapefruit rind. Sweet and bitter with a great pithy note in the dry down that comes from a particular chemical only found in grapefruits.

Litsea Cubeba Fruit found in Moon - Distilled from the fruit of the May Chang tree, it's bright and lemony with a soft woody undertone. Relatively unknown in traditional perfumery, it is native to Southeast Asia, where it has been used for hundreds of years in medicinal tea & cooking.

Until next week,
