The Wisdom of Insecurity
I like the idea that recurring themes are little sign-posts in life. Lately I’ve been noticing people discussing the seemingly contradictory wisdom of insecurity - from Alan Watts seminal book written as a ‘message for an age of anxiety’ - to the boundary pushing work of my friend Lucy McRae who advocates for ‘designing from doubt.’
So often we feel like we need to be sure & that to have the answers is a sign of competence & confidence. But in many ways it’s the opposite. When we admit we don’t know we create spaciousness for ourselves and others to pause, reconnect & come up with new ways & solutions. There’s beauty & freedom in acknowledging we’re insecure, but just like nature we’re going to keep exploring.
